The everyday plumbing problems we focus on
Pick the page that best matches what's happening at home. Each one explains the warning signs, what you can safely check, and what an assessment looks at.
- 01
Drain cleaning
Kitchen sinks that slow a little more each week, a shower you end up standing in, a toilet that gurgles when the washer empties, or a main sewer line backing up into a floor drain. One fixture or several tells you a lot about where the blockage sits.
- 02
Leak detection & pipe repair
A damp cabinet floor, a supply connector that drips, a toilet that refills on its own, a stain spreading across a ceiling, or a pipe that split in a cold garage. Catch small leaks before they soften wood and drywall.
- 03
Water heater repair & replacement
No hot water, hot water that runs out fast, swinging temperatures, popping or rumbling from the tank, or water around the base. Repair or replacement depends on what's actually wrong.
- 04
Emergency plumbing
Water coming through a ceiling or across a floor, sewage backing up into a tub, or a burst line. Safe first steps to limit the damage, then call.

Clogs that keep coming back, or gurgling
Repeat slow drains and odd sounds from nearby fixtures often point past the drain opening.

Describe the problem
Say whether water is moving now or it's a slower issue, which fixtures are affected, and give your street address and city.
- 02
Hear what was found
Once the problem is looked at, ask what caused it and what the options are — clearing, repairing a part, or replacing a section.
- 03
Approve the quote first
Ask for the price of the work before it starts. You decide whether to go ahead.
If water is moving now
A calm first few minutes
Most water damage grows with time, so the goal is simply to slow things down without putting anyone at risk. You don't need to fix anything yourself.
- 1
Stop using the fixture.
Don't keep flushing a toilet that's rising, or run a sink that's backing up.
- 2
Use a shutoff you already know — only if it's safe.
The small valve under a sink or behind a toilet, or your home's main shutoff if you know where it is and can reach it without standing in water.
- 3
Keep away from water near electrical equipment.
Don't reach into water near outlets, cords, appliances or a panel.
- 4
Immediate danger goes to 911, not a website.
If you smell gas, leave the home and call from a safe place. For fire, injury or electrical hazards, call emergency services.

Before you call
Six details that save time
- Which fixture is affected — kitchen sink, a toilet, the water heater.
- Whether it's one fixture or several at the same time.
- When it started, and whether it's getting worse.
- Whether water is actively leaking or it's an older stain.
- Your water heater type, if you know it (gas, electric, tank or tankless).
- Your street address, city and ZIP code.

Common questions
One slow drain or several backed-up fixtures — does it matter?
Yes. A single slow sink or tub usually means a blockage close to that fixture. When several fixtures are slow at once, or water appears in a tub when a toilet flushes, the restriction is often in a shared line or the main sewer line and needs a different approach.
Why does my hot water keep changing temperature?
Fluctuating hot water can come from the water heater itself, from a shower valve, or from demand elsewhere in the house. If it's new, getting worse, or paired with noises or water near the heater, have it looked at.
How much will a plumbing repair cost?
The cost guide on this page shows published Utah regional ranges for common tasks so you can plan. Your actual price depends on what's causing the problem and comes from an on-site quote you hear before approving the work.
Is a sewer or water problem in my yard mine or the city's?
For sewer, Tooele City says property owners maintain the lateral from the home to its connection at the public main, and the city maintains the main sewers. For water lines and meters, ask the Tooele City Water Division to confirm where responsibility sits for your address.
